Religious Education
R.E. plays an important role in reflecting the aims, values and philosophy of our school. It develops children’s ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhances their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We believe that it is vital for all our children to learn from and about religion, so that they can understand the world around them. We provide children with an opportunity to develop their knowledge of world faiths and their understanding and awareness of beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, communities and cultures. We encourage our children to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. We follow the Durham
Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. As Christianity is traditionally the predominant religion in the school’s pupil population and in the community surrounding the school, Christianity is the chosen faith for progressed study. We also explore the teaching and practices of other principal religions.
